Do you think this happens with every generational shift though? Like people who were in their 30s in 1962 were like, “Oh what’s this Beatles garbage?! There’s like NO doo-op nominated this year!” Not to compare Taylor Swift to the Beatles, of course.
OK, like, the way I feel about the Rolling Stones is the way my kids are going to feel about Nine Inch Nails, so I really shouldn’t torment my Mom anymore, huh?
Of course, to an extent, every generation is going to be partial to the stuff they grew up with. Young people of every generation are louder and more reckless than those before, and when you start getting old like us, it gets more difficult to adapt to the new stuff coming up. Take, for instance, my intense, seething hatred of dubstep.
But I can recognize that even some of the music I dislike is well crafted. Rap & R&B aren’t really things I listen to, but I think Jay-Z and Kanye and others are extremely talented artists.
There are immensely talented musicians out there, even ones making things I hate and can’t understand because I’m an old. She’s not one of them.
