I apparently have to listen to things about 6 times before I get it
That Gotye song that absolutely everyone and their brother (and sister, and step-aunts, and second cousin once removed) has been posting? I listened to it once and dramatically pretended to melt off my couch with boredom. Eh.
Everyone kept posting it so I thought maybe I was missing the point, so I listened to half the album on Spotify. There were a couple of the other tracks I really liked, still pretty meh on “Someone I used to know.”
In a move completely unlike me, I kept listening to it, trying to give it a chance. Usually if it doesn’t hook me the first two times through it’s off the radar.
I watched the video, even. And thought, ” this is kind of interesting, but that dude has a seriously bizarre thin little mouth. It’s all right, I suppose, but still kind of weird and precocious and art studenty.”
Well, apparently it’s worn me down. Something finally clicked in my brain because now I’ve listened to it four times in a row on purpose and I actually really like it. I still like “Smoke & Mirrors” better, though.
